Parish Annual Meeting

Our Parish Annual Meeting is just around the corner!

Our Annual Meeting is coming up in November, and as with everything in 2020, it will be a bit different as we meet mostly online (and in person for those not online – if the law allows by then).  We will meet on:

Sunday the 29th of November 2020 at 11am
You can find the formal notice of Annual meeting here.

Our Annual Meeting is a time in which we get together to hear reports on the activities of the parish, present the budget for the year ahead, and elect people into our parish leadership – as wardens, onto Parish Council, the incumbency committee and the Ministry Advisory Committee.

Electoral Roll
Only those who are on the Electoral Roll are able to vote at the annual meeting.  A copy of our current electoral roll can be viewed here.  If you find you are not on the electoral roll we do still value you and want you to be part of our community!  It is likely an administrative error or you have never filled in an application to be included on the electoral roll. You can simply download the application here, fill it in and send it back to me via email and we’ll add your name.  If you see any names of people who are no longer part of our church, do get in touch and let me know.  The electoral roll will be revised on Monday the 9th of November after which it will be in final form for the meeting.

Call for nominations
Would you consider who you might nominate, or whether you would like to be nominated yourself?  You can download the nomination forms here.  This year nomination forms can be returned by email or sent or dropped off to me at 36 Bakewell Street, Cranbourne VIC 3977.  Nominations close Friday the 6th of November.

As you consider whether you might like to nominate, here’s what each involves:

Wardens
(2 Positions – 1 from St John’s, 1 from Christ Church)

Wardens are the senior lay leaders within the parish.  Together with the vicar, they are ultimately responsible for the finances and fabric of the church.  Being a warden involves attending Parish Council, meeting on occasion with the vicar, and being willing to arrange things like repairs to our properties.

Parish Council – PC
(2 positions – by local agreement, one from St John’s and one from Christ Church)

Parish Council meets monthly (currently on the second Tuesday at 7:30pm) – we make decisions affecting all aspects of the parish and keep track of the finances.  It’s a very important role for the health of the Parish, and one we need godly and mature Christians to continue to take up.

Incumbency Committee
(3 positions – one from St John’s elected by St John’s people, one from Christ Church elected by Christ Church people and one other elected by the whole)

The people elected to this position are members of a committee that looks for a new Vicar should we need one.  My expectation is that these people will have nothing to do this year! However, the future is the Lord’s and so we also need wise people who are committed to the gospel in case it is needed.

Ministry Advisory Committee (St John’s) – MAC
(4 positions – St John’s only)

The MAC is elected by the people of St John’s and, under the PC,  has oversight of the Mission and Ministry at St John’s (Christ Church has its own MAC).  Last year its primary responsibility was the development of our Mission and Vision and Mission Action Plan.  This year its main focus will be looking to implement the MAP for St John’s.  We will meet about every second month in 2021.

Call for reports
If you are the leader of a ministry or activity that would normally report to Annual Meeting there is no obligation to have a report this year if your activities were totally disrupted by COVID-19 outbreak, though you are welcome to submit a report by Sunday the 15th of November if you would like one included in the annual meeting papers.

I look forward to catching up with as many of you as can make it – it’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all that God’s done this year and hear of plans for the year ahead.

In Christ,
Sam Bleby
